What is Pilates?

What is Pilates?

Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates, who faced many health issues as a child. Through observation and daily practice, he slowly learned how the body works and how movement could help it feel stronger and more balanced.

The Pilates method is based on breathing and the movement of the spine. The idea is to work the whole body with one main goal: keeping the spine as healthy, natural and mobile as possible.

During a Pilates session, several key principles guide the practice as breathing orpelvic alignment. Every movement is intentional and connected to the rest of the body.

Pilates often looks gentle (aha), but it can be surprisingly challenging. It works deep muscles, small stabilising muscles and areas we don’t usually think about - yes, even those muscles you didn’t know existed.

Also, pilates is adaptable. It can be soft or more demanding, depending on your needs. It suits different bodies, different moments in life and different energy levels, including pregnancy and postnatal periods.

More than a workout, I consider Pilates as a way to reconnect with your body and understand how each part works together. Over time, it helps you feel stronger, move better and feel more comfortable in everyday life.
